Today I am so pleased to welcome Elle Keaton to Joyfully Jay. Elle has come to talk to us about her latest release, When It Rains (Accidental Roots series). She has also brought along a copy to give away. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Hi thanks for stopping by JoyfullyJay today, we have some special guests with us–Adam Klay and Micah Ryan, visiting with Elle Keaton. Adam and Micah first appeared in ‘Storm Season’ but they’ve had a few cameos since that first appearance, most recently Adam was spotted in ‘When It Rains’.

The coffee shop is humming with the sound of milk being steamed and espresso pulled, Elle waits patiently for her guests to arrive. She’s managed to catch the two of them just as they are on their way out of town, apparently, there’s an art show in LA which includes a lot of Adam’s father’s work.

Two men approach the author’s table, each pulling out a chair to sit down. One is tall and slender with slightly curly hair that has a ‘naturally messy’ appearance. The other man is dark and built with broad shoulders and a frown on his face he sits down with a heavy thump next to his partner.

Elle: “Hi guys, how ya doing? It’s been a while since we chatted.”

Adam: “I’ve been better, is there a reason we had to be here at the ass-crack of dawn?” (his scowl deepens emphasizing his displeasure).

Micah: (Rolls, his eyes at his partner but smiles as well) “Sorry, Adam didn’t get his coffee before we left the house this morning. It’s his own fault so don’t feel sorry for him.”

Elle: (clears throat). “We are in a coffee shop. In fact, I believe it is your favorite coffee shop gentlemen, don’t let me stop you.”

Micah: glances at Adam his eyebrows raised before nudging him with an elbow, Adam huffs and stands heading to the coffee counter. It’s early still but there’s a bit of a line.

Elle: “Micah, it’s really good to see you. How are things going? Anything I should know about? Adam proposed back in December, have the two of you tied the knot yet?”

Micah: (his face breaks into a wide smile) “Yeah, we went to Hawaii on a surprise trip and believe it or not Adam managed it again. We’d talked about having a small ceremony in a friend’s backyard in the summer so I didn’t suspect anything. Adam planned the whole thing, he even found a justice of the peace. It was amazing,(his voice drops to a whisper), on Hanalei beach just as the sun was going down.”

Elle: “Huh, I didn’t think he had it in him Adam is not the most…romantic person. (laughter from Micah) Congratulations.”

Micah: “Thanks.”

Adam returns to their table holding a steaming cup of coffee in each fist, he glances quickly at Micah.

Adam: “What were you two talking about?”

Micah: “Hawaii.”

(He has such a relaxed smile on his face, it’s nice to see Micah happy and living his life again)

Adam: “Oh,”

Adam actually blushes, which is nothing short of adorable–Elle pretends not to notice. Adam raises his left hand showing where a white gold or platinum band sits snuggly on his ring finger,

Adam: “It’s official, Micah’s stuck with me now.”

Micah: leans over and kisses him on the cheek, “It’s a good thing I love you.”

Elle: “Anything else? How’s the caseload?”

Adam: “I can’t talk about specific cases, but we’ve been busy. If it’s not one thing it’s another. A couple of my guys got hurt in the last big bust but they’re going to pull through. Let’s see,” Adam taps his fingers on the table top as he sips his coffee, “Joey and Buck are finally cleared to adopt one of the kids from that raid a few years ago. For some reason they’re over the moon.” He laughs when Micah smacks him. “Joey asked me to write a letter of recommendation for him.”

Elle: “Did you?”

Adam: “Of course I did but I had to give him crap about it first didn’t I? Told him he was a security risk but that’d I’d write one for Buck, I thought he was going to come unglued.” Adam snickers.

Elle: “How do you feel about the art show? Are you excited? Nervous?”

Adam: His chair creaks as he leans back, “You know, it’s funny, a year or two ago I wouldn’t have bothered going—as a kid his art seemed like it took him away from me, and it did. But now that I’m older and I understand more about his life and how he was raised—I understand. He wasn’t equipped to raise a kid by himself but he got me to eighteen alive, I never was hungry and I, well he loved me in his own way. So I’m gonna go and stand around and shake people’s hands who should’ve been there for him—and I’m going to be nice.” He grins, “but not too nice.”

Micah: I’m looking forward to warmer weather, Evan and Sterling are letting us stay at their condo.

Elle: “Anything else Micah? Adam seems to have done all the talking.”

Micah: “Not really, it’s nice to have Adam home more since he’s been promoted. We’re talking about getting a dog.”

Adam: “Anything for you baby,” squeezing Micah’s knee, “but not until we get back from LA. We should get going our flight leaves from Paine Field in three hours”

Elle: ”Thanks again for stopping on your way out of town, I know people want to know what you’ve been up to. And, congratulations again on the wedding—I’d love to see pictures!”

Micah: “I’ll send you some.”

Adam tosses the rest of his coffee back stands and grabs Micah’s hand pulling him up.

Adam: “Alright, time to go. Talk to ya later.”

Elle: “Bye, guys, have fun in LA…but not too much fun.”

Cheers,

Elle

Blurb

Beto Hernandez’s objective: Break the human trafficking ring plaguing Skagit once and for all. He’s not in Skagit to make friends—he’s kicking ass first and taking names later. Maybe. He crosses paths with an intriguing and sexy man, the first in years to spark Beto’s interest. It’s ultimate bad timing, though; no one in Skagit can be trusted.

Who is Carsten Quinn, and where does he fit in Beto’s investigation? Beto tries to stay away from Carsten but their undeniable chemistry keeps him close.

Carsten Quinn survived years in hell to return to “normal life,” and he has his own mission in Skagit. The only problem is he’s hiding, not living anything like a normal life. When his closest friend is severely injured it’s up to Carsten to finish gathering evidence to put some very bad people behind bars and he knows all too well he can’t trust anyone, especially not the law.
Ironically, the law appears anyway, in the form of a sexy cop he can’t stop thinking about; when Carsten’s past comes back with a vengeance, he has no one else to turn to.

Is happiness too much to hope for? Are Beto and Carsten too different and too broken to trust anyone, much less each other?
