Quentin~

When Malachite looked at my snow globe again and asked, “How much for it?” I paused because I really didn’t know what he meant.

“How much for what?” I was sure the confusion showed on my face.

“How much do you want for your snow globe?”

I blinked at him a few times, then rubbed my earlobe without meaning to. As soon as I realized I was doing it, I pulled my hand down; I hated when I did one of my nervous ticks I’d had as a kid. “You want to buy my snow globe?”

He nodded and cringed a little. “Yes.”

My brow furrowed as I glanced at the object in question as I quietly said, “This is my home, Malachite, not a part of the store.”

“I know.”

Rubbing my earlobe again, I chewed on my bottom lip, unsure of why he’d ask me for it and how I could possibly say no to him. He’d been nothing but nice to me, sweet really, and he’d bought me so many little things these past few weeks that I felt bad denying him anything. But… “It was my grandmothers. It’s the only thing I have from her.”

Malachite’s face fell and he stepped toward me, putting his hand on my bicep. “I’m so sorry, Q, I… I…” He released my arm, closed his eyes, and pinched the bridge of his nose. After sighing, he looked me in the eyes. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“It’s okay, you didn’t know.” I shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal, even though it was really weird that he’d go around asking to purchase things in my home. “Do you do that a lot?” As usual, my mouth opened up without permission from me.

“Do what?”

“Go around asking to buy random things in people’s homes.”

He snorted out a small laugh. “Uh, no. Not usually. I sort of have a thing for snow globes, and that one’s really… unique, so I had to ask. I’m sorry I was rude.”

“It’s fine. Did you want to have that cup of coffee now?” I headed toward the kitchen and was relieved when Malachite followed me.

“I’d love one.”

When I looked over my shoulder at him, he was smiling hugely at me which made me smile back. “I have sugar and some different creamers, but nothing too fancy.”

“That’s fine. I drink mine black.”

I turned to him and wrinkled my nose. “Ew, really?”

He chuckled and poked me in the nose. “Yep.”

Swatting his hand away with a laugh, I set up the coffee pot. “Well, I like mine to taste good, so I have like three different creamers in my fridge.”

“Are you one of those people that drinks a little bit of coffee with their cream?”

I gasped and put my hand over my heart. “Do not offend me or my coffee.”

“Oh yeah, what’re you gonna do about it?”

I grabbed a big serving spoon out of the container on the counter and held it in front of me like a sword. “I will take you down, sir.”

I could tell he was trying to hold in a laugh. “You really think so?”

“I know so.”

Before I could register his intent, he gently grabbed my wrist and twisted, knocking the weapon from my hand, and the butthead caught the spoon midair with his other hand. I had hardly realized what’d happened before he backed me up and stepped in my space with the spoon held up to my throat. His eyes searched mine for a moment before he whispered, “You still think so?”

I couldn’t even remember what we’d been talking about because Malachite’s large, firm body was pressed against me. He was so close that I had to tilt my head up to gaze into his eyes. Not many men were taller than me, but I had to admit that I kinda liked it.

He was even more beautiful this close up. His green eyes were sparkling, and looked like they had flecks of gold in them; his brownish-blond hair was a little messy, but it looked good on him; the stubble on his face made me want to rub my cheek against it to see if it was soft or prickly; his body was hard and filled with so many muscles and so unlike my own that I had to hold in a shudder; but most of all, the way he was looking at me like I was the most precious thing he’d ever seen made my breath get caught in my throat. No one had ever looked at me like that. No one had ever treated me like I was special, like I was worth something, like I wasn’t just a nerdy, quirky, weird guy, like I was more.

Malachite’s beautiful green eyes flicked down to my lips, and I gasped. The sound seemed to snap him out of whatever crazed daze he’d been in that made him think I was worthy of him because he leaned back a little and smiled his goofy grin at me. Then he tapped the spoon on the tip of my nose and whispered, “Gotcha.” And then he was gone, leaning back against the counter opposite me.

And I was breathless and aching. I’d thought for a moment that he was going to kiss me, and every part of me had wanted it. But it was stupid to think that a guy like Malachite would ever want a guy like me. Even if I’d thought he was trying to win me over, it was clear that he didn’t want me. At least not like that. He wanted something from me, he didn’t want me.

No amount of wishing he wasn’t like the others would make it true.

Blurb

Malachite~

I have a wonderful life. I have no room to complain; between my brothers and their new mates, this is the most alive our home has felt since my parents died. Unfortunately, all of them being mated is making me miserable. When it was just the four of us, it was us against the world. Now they’re paired up and it’s only me and my dragon, Kesia. Until I happen to walk into the Overlord’s Lair and I see him: Quentin. Mine. Mate. As much as I want to win him over without telling him I’m a dragon rider and we’re mates—which I know he’d love—I’m not sure I can. The minute I’m around him I act like an idiot.

Quentin~

Every time the goofy guy walks into my store, he brightens my day, and I look forward to his daily visits. There’s just something about him that draws me to him, to the point he leaves me pining after him the moment he’s gone. But the thing is, I can tell he’s hiding something, and my wild imagination is coming up with the craziest explanations of the secrets he’s keeping. Maybe he’s a vampire that’s come to whisk me away—ridiculous, right? But a guy can dream. And I’ve definitely been dreaming of that big, muscular man wrapping me in his arms at night.

Malachite is the final book in The Brotherhood of Ormarr series. While each book focuses on a different couple, the overall story arc concludes in this installment. For maximum enjoyment, we suggest reading in order. Malachite is a m/m romance, and is recommended for adults 18 years and older.

Bios

Sammi Cee was raised in a family of readers. Summer vacations consisted of a good book while sitting lakeside from as far back as she could remember. After growing up and having her own children, her appreciation of how the written word could transport you on an adventure, bring you to tears, or give you hope, took on a whole new meaning.

These days Sammi is watching her children develop into fine young ladies while doing the things she enjoys most: drinking coffee, eating chocolate, and writing her own stories.

Michele Notaro is married to an awesome husband that puts up with her and all the characters in her head–and there are many. They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with their two young boys and two crazy dogs. She grew up dancing and swimming and taught dance–ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, & modern–for ten years before her kids came along. Now she stays home to write about the sexy men in her head and does PTA everything–as long as coffee is involved. Two other tattooed moms run the PTA with her, and though she wants to rip her hair out from it, she still loves it.
