Aaron is a Harvard Law graduate, but he’s cleaning offices for a living. Unsure of how he wants to proceed in life, he’s living in limbo until he figures out what he wants to do. David is a lawyer and he’s just had his wife served with divorce papers. He’s not been happy for a very long time and he’s finally made the decision to get out. David is also coming to terms with his sexuality, realizing he’s gay (or at least bisexual).

On a cold night, the men meet and click. Aaron invites David to come with him to karaoke night at his favorite bar. Their attraction is off the charts, and they act upon it as soon as they return to Aaron’s apartment. What is supposed to be one night turns into more when a Detroit snowstorm hits. When the snow melts, will their relationship be able to withstand the thaw?

You guys. I. Love. This. Book! I’m a sucker for a snowed in story and Into the Gray delivers. I mean…really delivers! The author paints a vivid picture of two men who are lost in the world and are lucky enough to cross paths at exactly the right time. The book has an almost film noir feel to it. It’s moody and atmospheric, and oh so hot. The image of the smoky bar is perfectly detailed, as is Aaron’s apartment, and even the office building. The sex, while not over the top, is exquisitely written. In fact, I would say this book leans more toward erotica. You know me. This is not a problem.

Aaron and David are super characters. They’re both lost and at a crossroads. Aaron doesn’t exactly know what he wants to do. He’s got a prestigious law degree, but he doesn’t think he wants to live the life of a pressured, overworked lawyer. Meanwhile, David is one of those pressured, overworked lawyers. He’s been hiding his sexuality, going through the motions of a marriage with a woman. Aaron is his first experience with a man, and it confirms what he’s always known. I feel as if I’m able to actually get into their heads, and I love that they’re not picture perfect, chiseled from stone, romantic heroes. They’re just good men ambling through life, just waiting for their destiny.

While Into the Gray focuses on Aaron and David, I feel as if there is one background character who plays an important role in the story. Dee Dee owns and operates Somewhere, Aaron’s favorite “watering hole” (as he refers to it). She and Aaron are close, and she’s very protective of him. The conversations she has with both men feel real, like a friend who wants what’s best for Aaron. She’s funny and balls to the wall, and I would love to have someone like her in my life.

I don’t want to give everything away, but I will tell you this. All through the book, I was talking to myself (and my husband…ask him) and repeating the words, “Please be a happy ending. Please be a happy ending.” While in my heart, I know this is a romance, it gives off the feeling of a sort of a first time, learning type of experience for David. Needless to say, though, I’m not disappointed. 🙂

The ending was perfection. It wraps up nicely and I was so thrilled with it. In fact, I’m thrilled with the whole thing. I will absolutely not hesitate to recommend Into the Gray. It’s such a wonderful story with amazing characters who have stayed with me since I closed up my tablet. Definitely give this one a go.
