  • Guest Post: The Evolution of Love by Philip William Stover

Today I am so pleased to welcome Philip William Stover to Joyfully Jay. Philip has come to talk to us about his latest release, The Evolution of Love. Please join me in giving him a big welcome!

I always thought I loved animals but then I met my husband. He really loves animals. We wait an eternity for the turkey vultures on the end of our street to cross the road.

“Just honk your horn!” I command.

“No, it might scare them. We’ll wait.”

Sigh.

We stop to pet goats, chickens, sheep and any creature with or without fur. He names them all. Currently I am in a standoff with a snake he has named Consuelo that lives by our front door. The snake is winning.

When we travelled to the Galapagos my husband was in animal heaven. I enjoyed the creatures but I seriously do not need to see another iguana as long as I live. I set The Evolution of Love in Ecuador for many reasons but one reason I keep coming back to is the feeling I had seeing someone I love connect with something they love. It changes your relationship. For me, it made me fall more deeply in love with my husband. We had only been dating a few years at the time we went on the trip but twenty years later I can still see his eyes light up when he talks about the blue-footed booby or the turkey vulture so I wait as patiently as I can sitting next to him in the car trying not lean over and honk the horn myself.

I hope you will read “The Evolution of Love” and join me on a romantic wildlife adventure. Here are four animals you might see in the Galapagos and in my novella.

The blue-footed booby is one of the most strangely colored birds I’ve ever seen. Those lapis toes are unmistakable and they are one of the reasons the hero decides to take the trip.

The Galapagos sea lion and fur seal can be very difficult to tell apart since they are both adorable.

Marine Iguanas are comfortable on land and water so that makes swimming a challenge if you’re scared of them like I am.

The frigate bird is a magnificent creature and he plays a central role in The Evolution of Love.

Blurb

When a charming but misguided account manager gets stuck on a cruise to the Galapagos Islands with his hunky zoologist ex, he might rediscover his true passion—in and out of the bedroom.

After art school, Mike Davis gave up on his dream in favor of a stable job. But when he gets an opportunity to teach wealthy travelers how to paint stunning sunsets, it seems like the perfect break. Until he finds out he’ll be sharing a suite with his ex, charismatic Benton Aldridge—a British scientist cuter than the baby animals he studies. Mike makes it clear he has no intention of getting back together with Benton, but sharing a suite makes it almost impossible keep his distance.

As they climb over volcanic peaks and swim with manatees through sparkling jade-colored water, can they also heal past wounds and take the next step in the evolution of love?
