Length: Novella

Chamomile Greenthroat, an omega, has always wanted a child and his window of opportunity is getting ready to close. He’s in his 30’s, and there’s no Alpha in sight. Figuring it couldn’t hurt, Cham decides to try an old tradition. He creates a charm of flowers to leave outside his house, letting all the Alphas (and everyone else in town) know he wants to have a baby.

Cham gets way more responses (and small floral charms, as well) than he anticipated, but the final bouquet he receives intrigues him. There is a language of flowers…each one has a meaning, and the mystery Alpha’s offering contains many types of flowers with many meanings. Included in the bouquet is a beautiful, obviously hand-carved wooden cuff. Cham realizes his suitor is Lark Woodwhistler, a carpenter from the village. Hoping to make a baby, Cham is excited, but thanks to some of the flowers in Lark’s bouquet, it’s obvious there are wishes for more.

Oh my goodness, what a charming little story! I loved it so much, I read it twice. I loved everything about it…Cham and Lark, the small town atmosphere, the townspeople. I considered this to be the perfect mix of all of the above. Topping it all off are the sweet and sexy encounters between the men, making it a wonderful way to spend an hour or so. A Dream of Daisies made me smile, and even giggle a bit. My heart was warm, and I very nearly woke my spouse because I wanted to share this gem.

Because this is a novella on the short side, the author made the most of the time available. Young was able to weave a compelling story that grabbed me from the first page and held on until the very end. There’s even a Language of Flowers glossary with the flowers and meanings. I found that to be very interesting, and I’m actually going to plan my spring planting using this guide.

I absolutely fell in love with Cham and Lark. They’re both sweet, rather quiet men, and I got a feeling of loneliness from them at the start. I hate to sound cliché, but they completed each other. Their fall into love is relatively quick, but as I mentioned, there’s not a lot of time to make this novella a slow burn. However, that’s fine. I didn’t feel any sense of rush. The impression I got was, once you find your perfect partner, why wait? The dialogue between them is nicely written. It feels natural and it’s oh so sweet. Along with that sweetness is the passion they discover in one another. The love scenes are the perfect combination of subtle and graphic. They are super sexy, but they’re not overwhelming.

Things move along at a steady pace, but once their courtship is over, the rest of the story passes quickly. Once again, this doesn’t mean it feels rushed. Nothing is really glossed over, and the descriptions and dialogue I loved so much about A Dream of Daisies are still there. Another thing I really liked about the story was there was ZERO conflict…just two men who needed each other falling in love. I was left feeling satisfied and happy with the whole thing.

The epilogue/ending was positively adorable. I confess to shedding a tear or two simply because it was so (and I know I’ve said the word before) charming. I cannot recommend A Dream of Daisies enough. If you’re a fan of omegaverse/mpreg stories, this one’s for you. If you’ve never ventured into this genre, it’s a perfect way to dip your toes into the pond. Definitely pick this one up. It’s wonderful!
