Today I am so pleased to welcome Kate Hawthorne to Joyfully Jay. Kate is here to talk to us about her new release, Heartless. She has also brought along an exclusive excerpt to share. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!
Thanks so much to Jay for letting me come by today. Heartless, the second book in Room for Love is out today, and I’m really excited to tell you a little bit about it, and give you a sneak peek of what you can expect from James and Levi’s unconventional love story.
When I set out to write the five Room for Love books, I knew there were five brothers, and I knew they would all be kinky. I had an idea of what was going to happen with James once I started writing him, but once I got him and Levi in a room together, they blew my mind completely.
If you’ve read any of my books before, you know I love to write kink the way it’s lived. I try to ingrain kink and BDSM into the daily workings of the character’s lives instead of making it a grand event. I knew James and Levi would be a little bit more difficult than most of my characters, because those two are into something we don’t see a lot of in the genre…humiliation.
One of the things I personally enjoy the most about kink is how it’s opened my eyes to so many things beyond my own lived experience. Verbal humiliation isn’t MY kink, but it’s not uncommon, so I really wanted to find a way to bring that to this series and make it understandable. Verbal humiliation isn’t the same as verbal abuse, and I get a lot of people might not understand how these two get off on the exchanges they have, but I’m also hoping that you’ll see the depth of their love and how the games they play together enhance their bond, not weaken it.
I know this one might be out of some comfort zones, but it’s not scary, I promise! And even though it’s book two, it’s a standalone, so you can pick it up even if you haven’t read Reckless yet. Which you can if you wanted to – http://mybook.to/rfl1
So read on for an excerpt from Heartless, Room for Love #2!
“You’re pathetic, James,” Levi said, not moving away. The insult landed against James’s lips and his tongue reached out to lick it up. His breathing accelerated and his entire body tingled like his veins were made of sparklers. He should be mad. He knew instinctively he should want to bloody Levi’s nose, but instead he softened, the fight going out of him completely.
“You think you’re so big, but you’re not,” Levi continued, every word kneading the tension out of James’s body. “You’re all talk, sunshine.”
“You’re stupid if you think I was going to let you suck my cock. You don’t deserve this cock.” As if to prove his point, to remind James about the cock in question, Levi bucked his hips forward and rubbed their dicks against each other. James inhaled sharply and, somehow, Levi’s mouth moved closer.
James’s cock ached. It fucking hurt. His underwear stuck to him where he’d leaked precum against the cotton and Levi humped him, generating a rough edge of friction that had James nearly in tears.
“Levi,” he panted.
“Don’t talk to me,” Levi whispered. “Not another word.”
For James Motel and Levi Kadish, it’s hate at first sight.
Levi thinks James is an arrogant out-of-towner, and James thinks Levi is a smug local with an overblown opinion of himself. Together, the two of them are like oil and water, but Levi likes the way he feels when James looks at him, and James really loves the sound of Levi’s voice when he says…
When he says those heartless things.
In the middle of a baking lesson James never wanted, the unresolved tension between Levi and him boils over, and James is left with more than rugburn. Levi’s words are emblazoned in his heart, and he’s eager for more.
Levi has never had something feel as right as his unconventional relationship with James, and when he finds himself with nowhere to go, he turns to the one man he knows who won’t turn him away…even though he’s the only man who should.
