Today I am so pleased to welcome K.M. Neuhold to Joyfully Jay. K.M. has come to talk to us about her latest release, Nailed (Four Bears Construction Series Book 2), which we reviewed and loved. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Four Bears: Constructing a Series

Hey there Joyfully Jay readers! I’ve been working on a REALLY fun series so far this year and I thought I’d give you the inside scoop on my hairy, foul-mouthed, super sexy construction dudes, in case you’ve been missing out.

This series started with the small germ of an idea about two years ago when the pun “caulky” popped into my head and made me giggle a little. I thought about how common the word “cocky” is as part of romance titles and how funny it would be to write a book about a construction worker and use that play on words. I had other irons in the fire at the time, so I filed the idea into my “to be written” folder and moved on for a while. Then, last year as I was getting close to wrapping up my Replay series and I knew my Heathens Ink series was starting to run it’s course, I began thinking about where I might go next and the construction worker popped back into my head. One thing I’ve always loved about writing series is the camaraderie between the best friends who all go on to find their happily ever afters. But the more I thought about it, the more I started thinking about how much fun it would be to write a group of foul mouthed, blue collar dudes who give each other a hard time but still love and support each other. I wanted to write more “mature” men, age-wise not ACTUAL maturity, finding the kind of love they’d given up hoping they would stumble on. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place when I drove past a sign for a construction company called “Four Bears” and I knew then exactly what the next series I was going to work on would be.

I get questions often about how I plan out a series. And the answer really varies by series. For the Four Bears Construction series, I started with construction puns. I spent two days coming up with every single word, vaguely sexual, construction pun I could think of and narrowing down to my favorites for the titles. Then, I thought about who these men were who owned this company together. I tend to write quite a bit out of order, usually jotting down whatever thoughts come to me first and then later arranging them into a coherent story. The very first thing I wrote in this series ended up being a scene towards the beginning of Caulky where Cole, Stone, and Ev are teasing Ollie for finding “The One” for the dozenth time this year. They go over the top blowing party horns and ribbing him for his eternal optimism and his terrible taste in men. That scene was the perfect springboard for me to ask who all four of these men were and what kind of love story they each needed.

Then I put pen to paper. Caulky took me on such a fun journey even I didn’t expect. Cole and Ren turned out to be such sweet, sexy characters who made me happy sigh through the entire story. Neither of them are looking for anything serious when they start to hookup casually, but what do you do when your casual hookup turns out to be the person you’ve been falling for online without even realizing it?! Things get even MORE fun in book 2, Nailed, when Stone buys a fixer upper house and realizes his new neighbor, Dare, hates him on sight. Most people might try to win their neighbor over, but not Stone. He endeavors to become the most obnoxious neighbor alive…with EXPLOSIVE results. Both of these books turned out better than I could’ve imagined, so full of heat and humor and a ton of heart.

Book 3 is currently underway! Everett, the third “bear” in the series was married to a woman for over a decade and has a daughter he has joint custody of, but this is a gay romance series so you know none of that means he’s straight. Hardwood will be out sometime this summer and you won’t want to miss this sweet, steamy journey of a man who’s pretty sure forty-four is way too old to come out, and the cute, nerdy music teacher who’s ready to prove him he’s wrong.

If I have you interested, you can check out Caulky and Nailed now on Amazon/Kindle Unlimited! And Caulky is also available in audio, dual narrated by two AMAZING narrators who did an INCREDIBLE job of bringing the story to life. Nailed will be available on audio very soon as well, so keep an eye out!!

My new neighbor is a total tool

He hated me from the second he laid eyes on me, and I don’t have the first clue why…

But, if he wants to hate me, I’m happy to give him a few reasons: mowing the lawn at dawn on the weekend, leaving garbage cans in front of his driveway, renting a petting zoo for my backyard…making a list of ways to drive him crazy is half the fun.

He deserves it with the way he’s driving me crazy right back without even trying— walking around without a shirt on, sweaty rippling muscles on full display, well-worn denim jeans perfectly molded to his…well, you get the idea.

My point is, if he wants a war, I’ll give him one.

***Nailed is an enemies to lovers, neighbors who can’t stand each other, omg the anger banging, drool worthy, low angst story, which happens to be the second in my Four Bears Construction Series. It CAN be read as a stand alone. There are NO shifters in this series, only the OTHER kind of bears.

Bio

Author K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together. She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series. When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
