Today I am so pleased to welcome Kate Hawthorne to Joyfully Jay. Kate has come to talk to us about her Room for Love series. She has also brought along copies to give away. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Hi everyone! Jay was nice enough to let me come by and take some time to tell you all about my most recent series, Room for Love. If you’re not familiar, Room for Love is a *five* book series about five brothers who inherit a resort hotel and are forced to move to the small town of Cherry Creek.

I’d had the idea for this series in my head for as long as I’ve been writing. I was attracted to the idea of writing about brothers and focusing on the sort of family that can develop between a group of tight-knit siblings sans their parents. It made sense that Charlie, the oldest, would have been forced into a patriarchal role, but I didn’t know just how much that impacted him until I got around to writing his story.

Now that the series is complete, I want to take an opportunity to tell you a little bit about each book and share what I loved most about writing them. On a whole, I knew that all five of the brothers would be kinky, but a lot of it is understated from what you would expect in a BDSM book. I think there’s a lot of ways for kink to exist within a relationship, and that’s what I set out to show with these five stories.

Reckless – Cameron and Luke

Cameron is the youngest Motel brother. He’s barely eighteen and when his book opens, he’s getting ready to pack it off to college with his best friend Eddie. The only problem is Cameron has been harboring a little bit of interest in Eddie’s dad, Luke. This book was especially fun because I got to write a little bit of kink and exploratory way. Luke is a seasoned Dom, and Cameron is completely new to the idea of BDSM. There’s nothing heavy in their relationship, some roleplay and some spanking, and together the two of them find a love that transcends the gap in their ages.

Heartless – James and Levi

This one was one of my favorites to write. James and Levi HATE each other, and with nowhere to take out their anger, it explodes in a fit of sexual tension. There is a bunch of hate sex in this book, which is expected since enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes to read and write, but there’s also a dash of humiliation and some lesser seen kinks. Don’t let that scare you off!! James and Levi love each other like no other couple I’ve ever written and they’re solidly my favorite.

faultless coverFaultless – Charlie and Eddie

It was bound to happen. Cameron may have gotten his man, but Eddie had his eye on Cameron’s oldest brother Charlie since they were kids. A rough day at school sends Eddie away from college and straight to Cherry Creek, where he’s intercepted by the ever-paternal, Charlie Motel. Charlie is in desperate need of a break, and Eddie swoops in to give Charlie a guiding hand. Their story is a delicious best friend’s brother romance with a very subtle and much needed power exchange.

Fearless – Brad and Theo

Writing Brad and Theo’s story was a bit of a struggle. It’s definitely the heaviest, content-wise, with Brad being a survivor of sexual abuse and Theo having a voyeuristic streak a mile wide. I knew I needed to be careful with the way I told Brad’s story, as recovery from that kind of trauma can be an ongoing thing for some people, but it was important that he have that growth and that comfort with Theo at his side. If you’ve read the first three books, you know that Theo and Brad were friends, so Fearless would definitely be considered a hurt/comfort, friends to lovers story.

limitlessLimitless – Andy and Leonidas

From the very first book (actually, from Unfettered), Andy has been a wildcard. He ended up being one of the most surprising characters I’ve ever written, with him taking off for a trip around the world in Reckless, I didn’t know where he would end up or who he’d end up with. I definitely didn’t know his HEA with Leonidas would be as unconventional as it ended up, but it was perfect for them and I couldn’t write them any other way. Leonidas was wild and free, and just the man Andy needed to explore some of his sexual interests without judgement, and in the end, that bond is what allowed them to maintain the ending they earned.
