Alternating Between Dark and Light Adventures
After publishing a novel, it’s always a quandary to decide which project to start on next. Especially when there are three different series that desperately need attention, and a handful of half-written stand alone novels impatiently waiting in the queue. So it all comes down to which character is shouting at me the loudest, and what genre I worked on previously.
Since the novel I just published is Through Rain and Missing Mantaurs, which is a gritty, dark fantasy with transgressive content about centaurs, the next one should be a lighter novel. That happens to be my Infinity 8 series.
Infinity 8 is a paranormal/urban fantasy set in the 1900s San Francisco Bay Area. I8 is a fun, whimsical adventure with some grit. It borders on romance, and features an unusual, slow burn relationship.
It has angels. Demons. And a mixed blood phoenix wrapped in human form. Agustin Chavez de la Cruz is the Demon Lord of California. Calico Winghorse is not only a phoenix, he’s the God of Space and Time. Calico is a triplet. He and his brothers arrived on Earth via his interdimensional portal.
Infinity 8 is also a reverse portal fantasy—Calico is from another world and arrives on ours. He brings with him the incredible worldbuilding from Through Rain and Missing Mantaurs, as that is his homeworld. It’s so much fun to have Earth-based characters react to it.
What is Infinity 8 about? Think organized teams of gathered paranormal beings protecting Earth in secret. And not just from otherworldly threats, but from other Earthly paranormal creatures as well.
Even just sharing these short bits of Infinity 8, I’m getting excited to begin the next two books in the series. The plots of books 2 and 3 are so closely intertwined, I have to write them one after the other. They’ll also have to be published no more than a month apart.
With luck, we’ll hear more about Infinity 8 by the end of 2021, so stay tuned!
