I knew this was a family-friendly event, and God only knew what he was expecting from me. Obviously, he didn’t know I was all but celibate these days. But still, I expected he’d taken one glance at me and made a common assumption. There was no point in being annoyed by it. I looked after myself, spent time in the gym in my downtime—more for my mental health than any other reason. The truth was, he and anyone else could make all the assumptions they wanted. Long ago, I’d made peace with who I was.

And I wasn’t changing for anyone.

I opened the curtain and peered out to the masses—the masses consisting of Ted and Jason, the local bar owners. I laughed and pulled out the small bowl of breath mints Daphne had left on the small table behind the stall—I assumed specifically for customers.

“No tongues, and breath mints appreciated.” I followed up with a deep laugh. “Who’s first?”

Jason stepped forward. “Apparently, we’re here to be supportive and get a crowd going. I can just give you the money?” His desire for me to accept the cash and let him leave was loud and clear, but no way would I cheat—I ignored the existence of the money burning a hole in my wallet—not with Fredrick probably hiding away with binoculars or something.

I clutched my chest. “Jason, Jason, Jason, you saying you don’t want to lay one on me?” I gasped in over-the-top shock, completely ignoring his quirked brow and expression that suggested he’d lay something on me if I didn’t hurry the hell up. “You offend me.” I threw him a wink, knowing perfectly well he was a happily married man and had zero interest in anything I was offering. Meanwhile, his husband, Ted, stood with a wide grin on his face.
