“Do you mind?” I asked Ian as I held up my phone.

“Go ahead, this isn’t a date.” He winked.

I bent my head over my phone and typed.

I’m up, but I’m out.

The little bubble dots popped up.

Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt.

I ran my hand through my hair.

You’re not interrupting. I’m just out with a friend. NBD

Cam responded quickly.

A Friend? Really? Do I know this…friend?

I could almost see his brows raised with piqued interest, and I couldn’t decide if that was a good thing or not. Did he really want so badly to see me with someone else? I’d had to live with the years of watching him be a serial monogamist, one long relationship after another. How many times had he told someone he loved them? How many times had I wished it had been me? Yet he was so quick to see me with someone. But I knew he just wanted me to be happy. I couldn’t fault him for that.

Not yet, but don’t get too excited. We’re just hanging out…as friends

Uh huh, sure. But I expect to hear all about this tomorrow. Or maybe, not ALL about it, nothing below the waist.

I shook my head and let the frustration slide away. Cam was just being Cam, no ill will intended, even if I read into things too much sometimes.

Won’t be much to tell, just dinner.

If you say so. Nite Ri.

Nite Camper, I wrote back and put my phone away. When I looked up, I caught Ian watching me with wide eyes.

He pointed and circled his finger in front of me. “Oh that…that was a whole lot of something.”

He couldn’t have seen what we were messaging, but I might not have been controlling my facial expressions as much as I thought.

“It was nothing.”

“That was not nothing. I’m guessing that was your reason you don’t date,” he stated.

If I couldn’t talk about it with a guy I’d spent a few hours eye-fucking only to somehow end up as friends with, who could I tell? “That obvious, huh?”

“That was like a whole roller coaster with loop-de-loops on crack. And only one thing I know can send someone up and down that fast. And you…you got it bad. So, what’s the deal? Is he your ex?”

I shook my head. “No. Best friend…from childhood.”

Ian pursed his lips. “And you two never…”

“He’s straight.”

“Ouch, that blows. Or…I guess it doesn’t, which is sort of the problem.”

I snorted. “Yeah, no kidding.”

“So why hang on? If nothing’s going to come of it, why not see what else is out there?” he asked. It was a sincere question. One I’d asked myself a thousand times.

all the stars coverLove Bank Romance, Book 1

Rider doesn’t have a lot of rules when it comes to guys, but there is one- he doesn’t date, not ever. He’s content with random hookups because dating means too much. That’s reserved for the one person he knows he can never have, his best friend, Cameron.

After watching his own family fall apart, Cam longs for someone who will stick it out through thick and thin. He’s had a string of girlfriends that never seem to be the right one. The one person he can always count on is Rider.

One night out changes everything between them. When Rider ends up telling Cam the secret he’s been hiding, Cam is left reeling. But will an accident end Cam’s chances to figure out what it means for them?

All the Stars is a heartwarming story of friendship, love, and finding the one that was right in front of you all along.
