Excerpt

This is from Brady’s point of view after he and Tate have met up at Sandi’s holiday party. Brady’s asking Tate rapid-fire dating questions, starting with best and worst Grindr hookups. Tate has funny yet awkward stories for each. Then Brady asks:

“Best kiss?”

Tate’s playful demeanor crumpled in on itself. “People still do that?”

“Yes? It’s kind of my favorite part.” Brady had to be pretty drunk to enjoy sex, but he always loved kissing.

“But that movie, Pretty Woman. People don’t kiss unless they mean it.”

“Wait. Were you on Grindr or hiring rent boys?”

“Grindr,” Tate whined.

“The Julia Roberts character was a prostitute, not a hook-up!”

“I know that,” Tate snapped.

“You don’t know what you’re missing,” Brady said. He gripped Tate’s shoulder for a moment but thought better of pulling him in for a movie-style kiss. Brady didn’t want to reinforce Tate’s no-kissing rule by forcing one on him. Tate, the non-kisser, would need to consent before Brady went anywhere near his mouth.

“You offering?” Tate asked. He ran his tongue over his bottom lip, almost daring Brady to break his new rule.

“Only if you’re willing,” Brady said, leaning closer.

“Oh, hey, box of condoms!”

A girl from Brady’s general education class – had it been American history or world cultures? – jostled against Brady as she ripped open the box.

Suddenly, Brady was almost in Tate’s lap as a linebacker of a man shoved him aside and began making out noisily with Brady’s former classmate.

Tate pulled him to his feet, and another couple who had been leaning against the back of the couch leapt over it and stole their spots before the linebacker could claim the whole thing.

Tate rolled his eyes. “Wishful thinking on my part. I come to these parties every year, and I can’t last more than 15 minutes on a single piece of furniture before this happens.”

He motioned around the room, where they were the only two people not groping, sucking, and fingering their way toward naked bliss.

“Come with me,” Tate said. “I know a place.”

They ended up in the basement floor laundry room. Both the washers and dryers were front- loading and stacked. leaving no room for anyone to sit or lie on top of them. The only place to sit was on the floor, so Brady slid down the wall and wrapped his arms around his knees, matching Tate’s posture.

“Why do you come to these things, if not to hook up?” Brady asked.

“I wouldn’t turn down a hook-up,” Tate insisted. “With one person, though. Some people take this orgy thing seriously, and I honestly don’t know what to do with more than one person. What do I do with my hands?”

“I don’t think you’re supposed to think about it,” Brady said. “Go with whatever you feel.”

Blurb

new year new you coverLast year, law student Brady Madison’s binge drinking left him naked, unconscious, and in trouble with the law. Now 350 days sober and with only two weeks to serve the last twelve hours of community service, Brady’s faced with another difficult choice: take an offer from the jerk who took the incriminating pics or spend the remaining hours in jail.

Tate Quinn’s snap judgment in Brady’s hotel room on New Year’s Eve ruined any chance he had of hooking up with Brady. Worse, his parents refuse to pay for another semester of grad school until he makes his mom’s New Year’s charity event a success.

Tate needs a volunteer to help him herd the cats, er, kids, at the New Year’s Eve afternoon party, and Brady has always been good with kids. Can they put aside their past anger and shame for six hours, or will these potential lovers turned enemies resolve to remain enemies in the new year?

New Year Not You is a 55k word enemies to lovers M/M Romance between a recovering alcoholic and a recovering man-child. This novel has an AA sponsor moonlighting as a DJ, a cold war between two moms, and two dudes who are not looking for true love (but find it anyway).
