“Is that how long you thought it would take to get over you?” Trib asked.
“Something like that.”
Trib placed a hand on Jack’s shoulder. “I had too much time and too much money in my pocket, Jackie. I drank a lot.”
“Best laid plans.” Jack paused. “What are your plans after release?”
Trib chuckled. “Man, freedom is on my six. I’m short. I’d like to return to duty.”
“Are you going to rejoin an engine crew when you get out?”
“That depends,” Trib replied.
“On what?”
“On what happens here.”
“With this burn or…?”
“Yes. I want to see if I can stand the heat.” Trib lowered his head and planted a gentle kiss on Jack’s forehead. “You taste of sweat and soot.”
“Fuel for the fire,” Jack said. He reached out and encircled Trib’s neck. He pulled Trib’s face to his and pressed his lips against the soft mouth of his former lover. Nothing had ever tasted so sweet or made him more excited than the kiss of Tribulation Brewster.
They knew each other well.
Fifteen years after going cold turkey on a passionate relationship, their bodies instinctively knew what to do. How to react. How to entice. And please.
