“Uh, Garrett,” I say slowly. “Where is Deak supposed to sleep?”

“Sleep?” He frowns, tilting his head as he studies me. “I figured he’d be staying with you? You were always crawling into each other’s beds as kids.”

I blush hard, even knowing he doesn’t mean it in a sexual way, but for some reason that’s exactly where my mind goes.

“I guess, you can stay in the van with me.” Garrett stares at Deacon and scratches his stubbled chin thoughtfully. “It’ll be a bit of a tight squeeze, but you can take the bed, and I’ll sleep on the sofa, if I can find it under all the boxes.”

“No.” I huff in defeat. “A drafty old caravan decked out like a hoarder’s paradise isn’t exactly conducive to his recovery. His body is adjusting to the fact he left his spleen in Rome. He needs to minimise the risk of any kind of infection.” I frown. “He can stay with me.”

“Are you sure?” Deacon turns to me, watching me with the same intensity as his uncle.

Suddenly, I’m insanely paranoid that they can read my face like a book, albeit a slightly smutty book about a boy who has to play nurse to the hot guy he’s been crushing on for decades.

“Yeah.” I swallow tightly trying not to think about naked showers, sponge baths, and sexually motivated medical malpractice. “It’s fine.” I clear my throat, ignoring the clenching in my stomach. “It’s only for a few weeks.”

“If you two have finished tossing me back and forth like a game of catch, I’d really like to sit down.” Deak smirks, but I can see the lines of exhaustion in his expression and the way he sways slightly on his feet, something Garrett doesn’t miss either judging by the worry in his eyes.

“Hang on a moment, I’ll go and grab a deck chair from the outside the van,” Garrett offers.

“Don’t worry about it.” I shake my head as I meet Deak’s gaze. “We may as well get you back to my place, at least then you’ll be comfortable.

“I won’t say no.” Deak chuckles. “I’m about ready to fall over, and I could murder a beer.”

“Well, you’ll have to shelve your homicidal tendencies for now because you’re not getting one, not with the pain meds you’re on. You can have a cup of tea.”

“Does that come with a pipe and slippers?” he replies dryly.

“No.” I smile sweetly. “It comes with a comfy sofa, central heating, and hopefully Nat’s signature sea food tacos.” I toss a wink at my future brother-in-law.

“I’ll see what I can do.” Nat chuckles as he leans toward Beck. “They’re like an old married couple aren’t they?”

“This is nothing.” Beck rolls his eyes. “You didn’t have to grow up with them.”

Blurb

definitely deaconBelong to Me, Book 2

Jesse Ainsley’s life running his busy veterinary practice in the sleepy Cornwall bay he grew up in leaves no time for a serious relationship… at least, that’s what he tells himself, but the simple truth is much more cliché. He’s been in love with his best friend forever, but when he starts pulling away and goes radio silent on him for six months, Jesse begins to wonder if their friendship is finally over.

Deacon James lives his life at two speeds, a hundred miles an hour and stop. He’s spent the last decade travelling the world, winning races, partying with the most beautiful men and women, and living life on his terms, a life which was pretty close to perfect… with just one caveat… he’s never quite been able to get over the boy he left behind. His best friend Jesse has always made him yearn for something he’s too afraid to face and cutting him out of his life seemed like the only answer.

But things are never that simple. When Deacon wakes from an accident in Italy with Jesse asleep in the hospital chair beside him, he discovers Jesse’s been keeping secrets of his own.

At a crossroads in their life, they’re faced with a choice, build something deeper and stronger from the ashes, or let words unsaid and secrets tear them apart forever.

From author Wendy Saunders writing as Vawn Cassidy comes this second chance, friends to lovers, hurt/comfort with a HEA.
