I hurry down the hall towards the laundry room as someone knocks on the front door. Since it’s probably Jules’ brother Stef who only lives five minutes from us, I fling the door open. “Hey man…” It is most definitely not Stef. I stare. And I can’t seem to stop. Tadhg Byrne is standing in the corridor of my apartment looking like he’s stepped off the pages of a men’s fitness magazine. I’ve only ever seen him in a business suit, and yeah, he looks hot in them, but oh, dear god, he looks incredible in jeans. Well, in those jeans, anyway. Fuck, they hug his narrow hips and muscular thighs lovingly and I have never been more jealous of a pair of jeans in my life. His black v-neck long-sleeved T-shirt molds to his upper body like a second skin and fuck, his chest is so incredibly broad. How did I not notice how broad his chest is? And his shoulders. And those arms. Holy shit!

“Who is it?”

I snap my mouth shut and realize Tadhg is still out in the hall. ‘Sorry! Come in!’ I step back to let him by. He looks as dazed as I feel. As he moves past me into my apartment, my nipples harden with the cool air and realize I’m still shirtless. I blush so hard I get a bit dizzy. ‘Shit! Hold on!’ I slam the front door shut as I duck into the laundry room and grab my Space Invaders T-shirt from my pile on top of the dryer. I pull it over my head, pushing my fingers through my hair to get it back into some kind of half-decent style, take a breath and step back into the entryway.

‘Let’s try this again.’ I grin and give a slight wave. ‘Hi. Glad you’re here. Want a beer?’ Tadhg still looks a little stunned, but he’s blinking it away. Hopefully, I haven’t scared him too badly.

Tadhg:

After a nasty breakup with my manipulative ex, I returned home to Seattle to lick my wounds. I’m done with relationships. From now on I’m focusing on my career.

There are just a few problems with this.

One, it’s not that easy for a Deaf man to succeed in a Hearing world, even with the right degree and experience.

Two, Quinn MacDougall. He’s my co-worker. He’s also incredibly talented, driven, and distractingly handsome.

Three, he’s hearing. And that’s the biggest problem of all. Can someone who isn’t Deaf ever truly understand and accept me?

Quinn:

Nothing is more important to me than family, and someday I’ll have my own. Well, I will, If I can ever find the right guy. Sadly, I can’t seem to make family and romance mesh. So for now, I’m concentrating on my career and getting a promotion at work. That is until my company hires a hot-shot architect with all the right credentials to easily snag the position.

I should resent him, but Tadhg Byrne is supremely talented and incredibly sweet. He’s also drop-dead gorgeous. And even though we have a ton in common I can’t ask him out. Why? We work together, and that’s just a disaster waiting to happen.

Plus, there’s the communication issue. He’s Deaf, my ASL is rusty as hell, and he’s just been through a really bad breakup. How could I possibly convince him to take a chance again with me?
