Exclusive Excerpt
I lunge for the Mage, but something stops me. That something is named Damon. He pretty much rugby tackles me, his body slamming into mine, taking us both down into the grass.
The intense heat of him hits me like the result of a volcanic eruption and it’s even more overwhelming now than it was earlier. A rush of answering heat races through my veins, liquid fire singeing every nerve it touches, lighting me up from the inside out. Both of us have bare arms, so we’ve got more skin on skin contact this time.
I can feel him. I can feel so much of him and. It’s. God. If danger was an emotion, this is what it would feel like, no question.
Damon is on top of me, pinning me to the grass. We’re torso to torso, our legs tangled, our hips locked in just right, Damon’s arms braced on either side of my head. His weight and overpowering presence knock the breath right out of me all over again. He seems bigger like this, up close and braced for a fight.
Damon’s rock-hard body is heavy and coiled tight and far too close to me right now. His eyes are still shining that brilliant electric blue. It’s distracting. All of it is. I don’t even realise how pissed Damon is until he growls in my face, “What the hell are you doing?”
I go on defence, because, yeah, what else can you do in the face of that much scorn? Someone hand me a fucking red cape, I got me some waving needs.
“You mean right now?” I ask, putting enough innocence in my tone to match the excessive amount of accusation in his. “Well, right now I’m being sat on by the king of creepy orbs. And I am having a wonderful time, thanks for asking. What the fuck are you doing?”
Damon does not look cowed in the slightest, but his eyes do fade back to normal, the eerie blue glow disappearing. I gasp, unable to help it, when the floating blue orbs fade out of existence. They disappear so suddenly it feels like they take all the air in the world with them.
And that makes me kind of pissed off, because I’ve had enough of people taking my air today.
“Were you about to kill that man?” Damon asks, sounding like he knows full well what the answer is.
And yes, I think we all know I was about to kill that man.
Even Damon’s normal eyes are a bit much to look at right now.
“No.”
That seems to dim some of Damon’s ire. He looks very confused, though, and suspicious as hell. “No?”
“No,” I answer plainly. “I was going to stab him in the throat.”
Damon lets out a frustrated growl. “Nova. That would be killing him.”
I shrug one shoulder. “I’ve never stabbed anyone in the throat before. I’m not sure how it goes.”
Damon does not appear the least bit impressed. I would care more if he weren’t lying on top of me. I would also care more if we weren’t trapped in the middle of a fire laden makeshift battlefield situation.
“You can’t just kill people.” Damon speaks with the appropriate amount of righteousness. If nothing else, he’s definitely pulling off the sanctimonious superhero bit. Seriously. Nothing but pure fucking class over here.
“You can.” I flash a smile that’s all twist and teeth. “If they’re throwing balls of magic fire at innocent people, you absolutely can.”

Liquid Onyx, Book 1
He’s got far too much nerve. He can blow things up with his mind. Yeah. The world should probably brace itself for this one.
When Rex Nova was four years old, he became one of the world’s first superhumans.
When Rex turns twenty, he feels the drive to use his scientifically given abilities to protect the world. He leaves home to become a member of the Secret Superhero Security team, alongside three of his friends and Danger City’s own superhero, Polaris.
Rex fights murderous Mages, evil organisations, criminal mafias, his agency appointed psychiatrist, his own weird brain, and the most frightening of all, his attraction to a certain blue-eyed superhero.
