A large, ornately carved desk which had been painted black dominated the space. There were sconces on the walls that sported electric candles helping to light the dim space. A massive, carved, wooden chair, also painted black and upholstered with dark red velvet stood behind the desk, along with two chairs in front of it.
“Have a seat and please tell me why the FBI has any interest in the club,” Ferguson said, absently waving to the two vacant chairs.
Max glanced at Leo and watched his partner nod, then step around to the front of the chair where he sank into it gracefully. Max did the same, not missing the fact that Leo moved with certainty and self-confidence. He was beginning to really like the quiet sense of purpose he possessed. Ferguson sat behind the desk in the ridiculous velvet chair, and Max realized how its sheer size made the man look small and almost diminished. He wondered whether the club manager realized it. Probably not.
“Mr. Ferguson, we were wondering what you can tell us about the Marchand Group?” Leo asked, getting right to the point.
Ferguson screwed up his features. “That’s what this is about? You want to know about our parent company? That’s why you got me out here at the butt crack of dawn? Do you have any idea what time I went to sleep last night?”
“It’s midday, Ferguson, and my partner don’t care what time you went to sleep or what time you got up. He asked you a question. What can you tell us about the Marchand Group?”
Ferguson turned to Max and shifted uncomfortably on his velvet perch as he reached up and ran a finger under the collar of the T-shirt he wore beneath the leather jacket. He reached out a hand which sported several large silver rings on every finger and waved it in the air.
“I get it. You’re the Dom here. Lovely.” He smirked and not in a nice way. “Well, Mr…ah, Agent…Dom, what can I tell you about our parent company? Hmm…there’s just so much to tell.” He tapped his chin with one finger as he looked up. He suddenly sat forward and looked down, pinning them with a serious sneer. “Yeah, that’s not happening. Next question.”

FBI Files, Book 1
Special Agent Leo Reeves is new to the FBI’s L. A. field office. His career has been on track since the day he joined the bureau. He loves his job as profiler and being assigned to a new team in one of the busiest offices in the nation, will be the opportunity of a lifetime…if he can put the past behind him. The face Leo shows the world is strong, focused, dependable, and capable. The long list of citations in his file only serve to prove how good he is.
If he could only forget he was sired by a monster.
Former Marine Staff Sergeant, Max Prince, leads by example. Whether it means protecting men in battle, working for the US Marshal service, or being the best damn field agent the FBI has ever seen, he brings a special kind of bravery to the job. His teammates depend on his ready smiles, his funny jokes, and know him as the capable agent he’s proven to be. They never see the man who buried his heart eight years ago.
The last thing he wants is to fall for the new guy.
When a serial killer suddenly starts targeting innocents, both men have trouble pinning down who they’re dealing with. With victimology all over the place, Leo can’t make sense of a profile and Max simply wants to put the bastard away before he murders anyone else. The case is maddening but worse, the attraction the two men find every time they look at each other, is beginning to get in the way.
