Today I am so pleased to welcome Lily Morton to Joyfully Jay. Lily has come to talk to us about her latest release, The Sunny Side. She has also brought along a great giveaway. Please join me in giving Lily a big welcome!
His hair has dried in waves of caramel silk, and his cologne smells of green tea, and it’s not the one he’s paid a lot of money to advertise. And my shampoo. There’s something furtively thrilling about him smelling like me. As if I’ve marked him in some way as mine and although we’ll go about our separate days, he’ll do so carrying a piece of me on him. I roll my eyes at the idea of marking Dean as mine. If my instincts had their way, I’d come all over him and rub it into his skin.
“What are you thinking?”
I inhale and choke on my spit. “Oh, nothing,” I say quickly. I turn to find him watching me, his eyes big and limpid. “No, really. It was nothing. Ooh, so much nothing.” I become aware that I’m babbling, but he just reaches over and pats my arm.
“I knew it.”
“Knew what?” I ask warily.
“You really aren’t good in the morning.”
“Oh, I think I’m mostly being bad today,” I mutter.
I clear my throat. “The traffic is bad today.”
“Oh.” He looks around as if astonished to find himself in a traffic jam. “London,” he says in explanation.
“Do you drive, Dean? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you.”
“Nah.” He stretches, and the grace in the movement convinces me that he really should have his own theme tune. Something like “The Beautiful Ones” by Prince should play as he wanders the street with his clothes billowing and his hair blowing back. “I never learnt.”
“Why not? I thought most teenagers wanted to learn and get some independence. Mind you, my knowledge is restricted to Ruby, who’s five and more mature than my mother.”
“Ruby sounds cool.”
I glance at him, surprised by his happy declaration. Most people in my world express polite disinterest when they discover I have a child. But I should’ve expected a different reaction from Dean, I suppose. Unusual things inspire enthusiasm in him.
“She is,” I say hesitantly.
“That’s good. I like kids, and you’re epic, so I’d be disappointed if your little girl wasn’t too.”
“I’m epic?” The bewilderment is loud in my voice. I’m hard, an astute businessman, organised, and thorough. What I’m not is epic, but it’s curiously lovely that he thinks so.
I edge forward a foot and then press the brake. The oceans are reclaiming the earth quicker than London traffic moves along. I jump as Henry rests his head on my shoulder.
“Dean, your dog is sleeping on me.”
He chuckles. “He likes you.”
I look at the dog’s mournful expression. “How can you tell?”
“He’s a good judge of character. When Robbie stayed over, Henry took his clothes and put them by the front door. Mal said Robbie should learn to take a hint.”
The Model Agency, Book 1
Jonas Durand is successful, rich, and controlled. He owns a prestigious modelling agency and has the world at his fingertips, but a turbulent childhood has taught him to be focused and never deviate from a plan.
Dean Jacobs threatens that stance. He’s one of the world’s most sought-after supermodels, but he’s also laidback and lighthearted and free in a way that Jonas has never quite managed.
Dean has always been interested in Jonas and has never made any secret of his admiration, but from the beginning, Jonas put him in a neat little box labelled, “Don’t touch,” turned the key, and never looked back.
However, the universe seems determined to thwart Jonas’s plans. Over the course of one hot summer, the two men come together, and Jonas’s well-ordered life becomes something a whole lot wilder.
Moving from the glamorous worlds of London and Paris Fashion Weeks to the sleepy South of France, Jonas finds himself liberating partridges, chasing his supermodel, and falling in love.
