I woke up with Haydn’s body pressed to me. Without jostling him, I carefully stretched to get the kinks out of my back.
His past horrified me, but his resilience to overcome the damage done to him was astounding. I would never have guessed he’d been so badly hurt. He was so lively and happy. When I asked him about it, he’d awed me again. Because I was alive. I survived. He’d said it so matter-of-factly.
I’d surprised him with the quick kiss, but all I wanted to do was kiss him again and again. His taste was intoxicating. His reactions were nervous but enthusiastic. He was going to be amazing in bed. I wanted to teach him so much about his body and how it could feel. But there was more, my need to control, to claim him as my boy. We’d have to talk about that. I had a feeling he would embrace it. He’d said he wanted someone to look after him. And no one would be better suited to fulfil his wishes than me. As long as he didn’t want to call me Daddy. I chuckled, then stilled, not wanting to wake him yet.
I had to leave soon. I had to go home and get changed before I went into work. That didn’t mean I wanted to. The thought of staying here with Haydn all day was much more attractive.
His bedroom suited him just like the living room. The walls were painted pale yellow, and framed superheroes, all artwork from comic books rather than film posters, covered an entire wall. The emerald-green bed covers and peacock-blue velvet throw should clash, but the result was bright and decadent, a little quirky, and totally Haydn. I would never have been inventive enough to put these colours together, and I was sure there was a reason behind it. Haydn had turned a corner last night. He’d cried out a few years’ worth of tears. I never wanted to see him cry again.
The warm, lithe body clinging to me stirred. His leg moved from over my thigh, and his arm slid from my chest. When I looked down, a pair of wide, deep blue eyes blinked owlishly at me. “Oh!” The surprise in his voice made me chuckle.
“Had you forgotten about me?” I stroked a curl from his forehead.
“I can’t believe I’ve fallen asleep on top of you. And you’re still here. You didn’t run for the hills when you realised what a mess I am.”
“Oh, sweetheart. You’re stuck with me now. For as long as you want me, I’m yours.” I bent my head, but he turned his away. “Morning breath,” he mumbled.
“I don’t care.” I kissed him, moving my lips over his, gently coaxing them to part. Haydn sighed. Which was enough to slip my tongue inside and find his. Lazily, I caressed his back. Haydn flinched but relaxed again. Was it painful, or was he unused to someone’s touch? As I deepened the kiss, he gave back with enthusiasm, licking and flicking my tongue, then sliding his into my mouth. He moved and lay on top of me, his hard length teasing mine.
Blurb
Bar 28, Book 5
Haydn
I’ll never find a boyfriend. Who would want me? I’m too shy, too geeky, too ugly. And I carry a truckload of baggage.
A few hookups, some quick groping in the dark, is all I’ve had, but I want more.
A man who takes over the reins every now and then. A man who tells me what to do and takes care of me.
Jonas is the man I’ve dreamt about. Quiet and funny, kind to patrons and staff alike. When his voice turns to steel, all I want to do is drop to my knees before him.
Too bad he’s my boss. No way would he be interested in me. And even if he is, can I trust him with my past?
Jonas
I’ve given up on finding my man. My brothers found their happily ever after, and I’m happy for them. But it’s not in the cards for me. Believe me. I’ve tried. I’ve had boyfriends, but as soon as my instinct to control kicks in, they broke up with me.
One look at Haydn and I know he’s the one for me. A ray of sunshine, bubbling with energy, and so eager to please.
He has secrets he’s not willing to share. I’m a patient man, though. I’ve waited thirty-six years for the perfect man. I can wait until he trusts me and opens up to me.
Haydn is an MM romance featuring hurt/comfort, low angst, instant attraction, a bubbly geeky boy, and a man who likes to be in control. It’s book 5 in the BAR 28 series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. This book is based in the UK and is written in British English.
