Chapter 3: Leith Dennison

Before Tavish could say a single word, his mom squealed with delight. “Oh my god, I knew you had a secret boyfriend in Wintervale! And he’s so handsome!”

“Why would you hide the fact you’re dating such a gorgeous gentleman from us, son?” Tavish’s father teased him.

I hid my grin behind my hand at their reaction as his mother pretended to swoon.

Tavish’s cheeks were bright red. “He’s not my boyfriend,” he hissed in embarrassment.

“Well, you better hurry up.” His mom tapped her watch for emphasis. “A stunning man like him will get snapped up in an instant if you don’t stake your claim on him soon.”

Stake my claim on him?” Tavish looked mortified. “What are you talking—actually, never mind. Look, he’s not my boyfriend. He’s the guy I rear-ended today.”

His father’s perverted snicker made it hard not to join in. “Lorelei, is that what kids are calling sex these days? Am I that behind on the times? I thought that was called a ‘come from behind’ nowadays.”

Tavish looked up at the ceiling with a long-suffering sigh as his parents burst into laughter. “You know normal parents hear their son say, ‘He’s the guy I rear-ended today,’ and think of a car accident and not sex, right?”

His dad waved away the question. “Pfft, being normal is overrated. You say rear-ended, but that’s what I like to call an old-fashioned attitude adjustment—something you’ve desperately needed for quite some time. You’re too stressed-out. Getting rear-ended would help you loosen up and start having fun. You’re too young to be so serious all the time.”

Tavish hid his face in his hands with a pained groan. “Dad, rear-ended isn’t a euphemism. I slid out on an exit ramp and crashed into the back of his car.”

His mother’s expression lost some of its lighthearted teasing. “Wait, are you serious?”

He gave her a look that told her how silly that question was. “Why would I lie about a car accident? Of course I’m serious!” He took a sip of his hot chocolate to help calm himself down.

All traces of her playfulness disappeared. “Are you okay? Were either of you hurt?”

“Thankfully, we’re both fine,” I answered for him. “But his car took the worst of the accident and wasn’t drivable afterward. Since all the hotels were booked because of the storm and he didn’t know anyone here, I offered to let him stay at my apartment while they work on his car.”

“That was so nice of you,” Lorelei said. “Thank you for taking such good care of him.” Her husband snorted beside her, so she nudged him with her elbow to shush him.

“That’s why I wanted to introduce myself since I know him staying with someone he had an accident with is rather unorthodox. I wanted to put your mind at ease. I’m Leith Dennison, and I live in Wintervale.”

“You could even say he’s ‘crashing’ at your place,” his dad said with a snort.

It was such a ridiculous dad joke that I laughed while Tavish groaned.

come from behind coverIs it possible that Tavish’s fender-bender on a snowy day will lead to him getting romantically rear-ended?

Having a car accident turn into a meet-cute? That definitely wasn’t how I saw my day going.

Because as soon as I collide into the back bumper of a fancy German SUV that costs more than a year of my college tuition, I’m pretty sure my life is over. Nightmares of getting yelled at and sued for what little I’m worth flash before my eyes.

But I somehow lucked out by hitting the nicest guy in Wintervale. Leith is more concerned about me being okay than the state of his ride. Having a stranger care more about my well-being than my last two exes combined has me blubbering in a way that merits getting called “kid” by the older man.

Instead of leaving me for dead on the side of the road like I deserve, Leith is my knight in shining armor who comes to my rescue—albeit on a slightly banged-up white stallion after our little run-in.

If the wreck wasn’t enough incentive for us to get together, the cosmic universe practically shoves me into his arms when we get snowed in, with nothing else to do besides getting to know each other.

Maybe if I’m lucky, he’ll be the one “rear-ending” me in bed tonight.

Come from Behind is a Suite Dreams series standalone side story novella. It’s a super sexy, incredibly swoony, age gap, forced proximity, no angst romance set in the small town of Wintervale that is as sweet and funny as it is hot and steamy.
