Today I am so pleased to welcome Tia Fielding to Joyfully Jay. Tia has come to talk to us about their latest release, Truce (Twin Star Rescue #1). They have also brought along a great giveaway. Please join me in giving Tia a big welcome!

Hello, everyone!

Since I’m here to tell you about Truce, the first book in my new series, I thought I’d also chat about writing a series, because… whoa boy….

I’ve always known that as a reader, you don’t generally understand or think about what goes into writing a series. I read a lot myself and sometimes marvel at people who manage to keep up with events or settings in a seamless way, book after book.

I’ve written series before, three others in fact, and even if contemporary (like the new one is) doesn’t need any new and unique world building in the same way say, my both shifter series needed, it’s still a lot.

When I had this idea of this series, I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. Twin Star Rescue is basically my love letter to found family and rescue animals. I don’t think I was quite prepared for the brain work needed to be done to make a coherent series out of several intertwining stories.

How Twin Star Rescue works as a series is this: some of the timeline in each of the books intertwines with the previous ones. The first two a lot, the rest probably slightly less as the story and setting has been established.

I have a timeline of months, sometimes days, where I try to keep things in order so I won’t say something happened in June when it in fact, happened in August in the previous book. Fitting a story within those kinds of parameters can be tricky as well. The characters might want to do thing X now, but they can’t because of reason Y until a month from the current spot I’m writing.

And don’t get me started on the animals! Since Twin Star is a rescue, that means animals. A lot of them. A spreadsheet of them.

No, not all of them are side characters as much as some others, but I still need to figure out which animal (whether dog, cat, goat, donkey, pony, OR a horse) is there. Since it’s a rescue, that means some of the animals move on to new homes and others come in occasionally. Keeping track of them is a whole job in itself sometimes.

What about the humans? Well, they’re easier. Everyone has their own personality. The hardest part is to sprinkle in some hints of things to come for future couples in other books without giving too much away. Of course there’s also the fact that since everyone interacts a lot, sometimes it can feel like the main couple in the book doesn’t get as much solo time as I would like as the author. But as long as it works, I’m pretty okay with that!

I have a giveaway for you, in honor of my own rescue animal, my dog Tara.

Tara would love to know if you have a rescue animal or if you would have one in the future? Leave a comment for a chance to win a $10 gift card for Amazon!

Blurb

Everyone dreams of a distant relative leaving them a fortune in their will, right?

At twenty-five, Lake White lives in New York City with his best friend and their roommate. He works at a bookstore, feeling content, but never quite happy. He’s vowed he’ll never return to Illinois where his parents disowned him for wanting to live his life authentically.

Then, one visit from a lawyer changes everything. Not only does it reveal that one of Lake’s favorite authors was actually his late aunt Ruth, but that she’d left him Twin Star Rescue, her life’s work. There are caveats, because of course there are. Lake can’t just decide whether to keep or sell the rescue right away. The book rights, those are squarely his, but there’s also the question of her last manuscript that’s unfinished. Could Lake finish writing it?

Twin Star Rescue’s foreman, Theo Fenton, isn’t the easiest guy to understand or get along with. Having just lost his best friend and boss Ruth, Theo is trying to protect everything Ruth represented to him and the others in their circle. Some city kid with his two friends coming to mess everything up doesn’t seem like a good idea.

At couple of years short of forty, Theo has cultivated his life into what he wants it to be. Sure, he has trouble making romantic connections with people, but he has great friends, a job he loves, and the best dog he could ask for. What else does a guy need?

Together, Lake and Theo navigate the various tasks of the rescue, the animals that need their help, all their friends and found family, and their mutual animosity turning into something more positive. The universe never stops giving them more surprises along the way, because where would the fun be in that?

Bio

Tia Fielding is a Finnish author who loves witty people, words, peppermint, sarcasm, autumn, and the tiny beautiful things in life.

Tia identifies as genderqueer but isn’t strict about pronouns. Why? Because luckily, in their native language there aren’t gender-specific pronouns.

These days, preferring to live in the middle of nowhere with their fur babies is as big of a part of their psyche as writing. Tia likes to recharge in nature and tends to watch where they’re going through their cell phone’s camera.

In 2013 Tia’s novel Falling Into Place was recognized by the industry’s Rainbow Awards in the Best LGBT Erotic Romance (Bobby Michaels Award) category.

In 2019, their novel Four (Love by Numbers #2) won a Rainbow Award in the Best Transgender Contemporary category.
