Corrigan’s cheeks flooded with color. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to cuss.”
“You’re perfectly fine. I can’t draw worth shit either.” Sacha winked.
Corrigan nearly wet himself and emitted some gasping-gurgling sound. “Egads.”
Calm it down, Ellery. Be cool.
Sacha’s brows arched. “You okay?”
“Yeah. My advisor said lots of players get degrees in general studies.”
“Only the players who don’t give serious concern to preparing a contingency plan if they don’t make pro. General studies is good shoptalk for the university because, face it, you’re here to play hockey. That’s money in their pocket for the next four years, but not if players are flunking out. Their investment in players is a free education in exchange for their athletic ability. No pass, no play. Then they’d go in the red. It’s Accounting 101. Fifteen years ago, the university didn’t even have general studies as a major. Then the university saw the benefits, and here we are.”
“So you’re saying it’s a trash degree.”
“Not at all.” Sacha shook his head. “It has merits in a whitewashed type of way. It’s not especially valuable when you need a plumber or physician—someone who knows the ins and outs of a specific trade. You don’t want just anyone fumbling around with your pipes. You want someone who knows what he’s doing.”
You can fool around with my pipes anytime. Dammit. Uh-uh. Not going there. Concentrate! “What’s wrong with being well-rounded?”

Genevive Chamblee is a southern darling and resides in the bayou country where sweet tea and SEC football reign supreme. She is known for being witty (or so she thinks), getting lost anywhere beyond her front yard (the back is pushing it as she’s very geographically challenged), falling in love with shelter animals (and she adopts them), asking off-the-beaten-path questions that makes one go “hmm”, and preparing homecooked Creole meals that are as spicy as her writing.
