Chapter 2: Haverford Delaroche
Sal fidgeted, playing an unheard song on the table with one of his hands. “Well, since this is already awkward as fuck, I’ll go ahead and ask: do you have a partner?”
“If I did, I wouldn’t be staying here.”
“I can’t say I’m surprised someone as disagreeable as you is single,” he said with a haughty sniff of disdain.
Two could play that game. “And what about you? Too busy with life on the road to bother finding a stable relationship?”
He gave me a fierce glare. “My love life—or lack thereof—is of no concern to you.”
“It is if you intend to bring partners into our room.”
He bristled with annoyance. “Oh, so Lord Haverford is going to lay down the laws about what I can and can’t do in my own damn apartment? I don’t fucking think so.”
“The issue is purely pragmatic. Our bed is too small to fit a third person.”
“It’s not our bed. It’s my bed.” Sal shrugged. “I didn’t pick it out, though. It came with the room.”
“That doesn’t negate the fact that it’s not big enough for three people or the fact I’m not interested in being your third.”
He scoffed. “Don’t flatter yourself. Even if I was into sharing partners, I’d never give you the pleasure of an invitation.”
“Oh, no. How will I ever get over the crushing disappointment?” The sarcasm dripped from my voice as I turned over the patties. “I don’t know if I can survive that kind of heartache. I’ll never be the same again.”
“Cute. Real cute. You think you’re so funny, don’t you?”
I grinned at the question. “I’m hilarious, actually.”
“Yeah, you’re a real fucking laugh riot.” Sal got up and filled two glasses with ice. “What do you want to drink, Mr. Stand-up Comedian?”
“I have sparkling water in the fridge, thanks.”
He took it out and poured me a glass. “It’s amazing how even the water you drink is pretentious.”
“If you’re taking umbrage with my choice of drinks, you’re already scraping the bottom of the barrel of stuff to be mad at me about.”
Sal poured himself a ginger ale. “All I’m implying is that buying a single bottle of sparkling water that costs more than an entire case of soda says a lot about you and your priorities.”
“Yes, how dare I prioritize my health?”
He snorted as he carried the drinks over to the table. “Can you say that when you’re cooking a heart attack on a plate?”
I had to give him that point. A Juicy Lucy was the furthest thing from healthy. But it was damn delicious, which was all that mattered. “I doubt you’ll be complaining once you taste it.”
While the burgers sizzled in the pan, I prepped the buns. “Normally, I’d make fries, but I don’t have the right equipment here. Chips will have to suffice.”
“I’ll never say no to chips. That’s amazing you make your own fries, though.”
“It’s worth the effort when they taste better than the frozen ones in the bag.” There was a tiny part of me that regretted not being able to show off with my spiced fries.
“Wow, it’s hilarious that you’re snobby about something as basic as fries.” Sal chuckled. “I’m almost impressed.”

Harmony of Hearts, Book 4
Sal and Haverford are forced to live together, but that doesn’t mean they have to like it. Sparks fly between them, but will it lead to love?
Sal Henrik
Coming home from a world tour early to find out my roommate sublet my room sucks. But being forced to share my room with the most annoying attorney on the planet? I’d rather launch myself into the sun, thanks.
Since that’s not an option, and I refuse to be chased out of my own room, I have to suck it up and share a bed with my enemy. As if that wasn’t bad enough, I discover Haverford is a secret cuddlebug—and worst of all, I don’t hate it.
If he insists on staying in my space and making me delicious dinners, he has no one to blame but himself for making me fall in love with him, right?
Haverford Delaroche
My peaceful subletting situation is thrown into total chaos when Sal comes home early. We start as enemies, but I begrudgingly develop a fondness for his fiery tenacity. That doesn’t excuse me waking up every morning to discover I’m cuddling him like my favorite teddy bear, though.
But when it feels like he was made for me to hold, how can I resist falling for Sal when he’s everything I didn’t know I needed?
