Crack. Bang. Boom.
“What the fuck is that?” I yelled as the ground beneath us shook.
“The coven is under attack again,” Rayne shouted back over the chaos and noise. “This is what happened when your father hired those shifters months ago.”
So, who is it this time?” I questioned, watching as the Romano wolves and witches worked as a well-oiled team. “I know it wasn’t the clan this time.”
After the shower, we all decided to go outside, get fresh air, and enjoy nature. That was a lucky thing. If we were still inside, it would be too easy to trap us and limit what we could do to fight off any assault.
“Shit. I need to get over there and make sure they have it under control,” Rayne said. He started toward his parents and cousins as they choreographed some magical movements. “They need reinforcements.”
“Wait.” I tugged his arm. “Will that hurt the baby?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure we’re okay.” Rayne kissed me and dashed off to his magical kin to help fight. Red strikes hit the ground around them. Heaviness hung in the air.
“Zander, come here and help us,” my father yelled as he fought off a physical strike. “There are about a dozen trying to take us down from what I see.”
All alone, I ran to join the fight and took down about three. All around me, I saw our mating and baby shower guest in some type of battle, whether energy-based or physical blows.
I practiced some tips my mate had taught me to pull on my magic to help defeat the enemies. We kept them alive since dead men don’t talk. We needed to know who was doing this. By the time I was restraining the final culprit, I noticed that everyone else was finishing up and that our side had won the battle.
My eyes fell on my mate. Concern built in my core. Something was wrong.
“Rayne,” I bellowed as I ran to his side.
“Zander,” he whispered.
“What’s wrong,” I asked. I searched him over for injuries.
“I don’t know.” Rayne panted. “It hurts.”
“What hurts?” I asked and then noticed him gripping his belly and grimacing. “The baby?”
Dread filled me at Rayne’s nod. “Don’t let me lose him.”
“You’ll both be okay. Let’s get you to the doctor.” I moved him toward the cars. Hoping they weren’t damaged in this incident.
“What’s going on?” Wolf ran up to us and helped me.
“It hurts, Wolf,” Rayne cried out. “Something’s wrong.”
“Fuck. Okay, listen,” Wolf responded. “Everything will be okay. Your mate’s going to take you to the doctor. Those doctors will ensure this little guy will be fine. I’ll meet you at the hospital after everything here gets cleared.”
“Find out who did this?” Rayne told his brother. “We can’t let this go.”
“Don’t worry, Rayne. We’ve got a few of the magic weavers. The team was sent to physically attack us. We had no cyber-attacks this time, at least. We’ll get the needed information, and justice will be paid,” Wolf reassured his brother. “Now, go. I’ll see you in a bit, okay?”
“Thank you, Wolf,” Rayne whimpered.
Wolf closed the car door before informing the others what was happening.
“Hold on, Rayne. I’ll make sure you both are okay.” I drove off the territory and headed to the hospital.
Goddess, please make them both be okay.
