Exclusive Excerpt
Percy’s next house viewing was early Friday evening after he’d finished giving Dorothy a massage. He and Cal had driven into the city together, so Cal had to check out the place with him. It was on their way home, after all.
“Looks like a bachelor pad,” Cal said under his breath after the lovely introduction by a barely dressed Chad. Chad showed them the great room, then kicked back on his leather couch the minute his phone rang. With a casual flick of his wrist, he gestured Percy and Cal to look around. Percy tugged Cal toward the master bedroom for a peek. Floor-to-ceiling blackout curtains, plaid bedding, sleek floating shelves, and not a book in sight. Clean and tidy, but too gray and cold. They should probably cut their wonderful guided tour short and hit the road again.
“What is that?” Cal tugged leather straps that hung from steel rods in the ceiling. Or maybe they could stay a little longer.
“That’s a swing.”
“This is hardly a child’s room.”
Percy clasped Cal’s shoulders and whispered in his ear, “Not that kind of swing.” Cal’s voice came out scratchy.
“How do you know?”
“Maybe because I’m not a virgin?”
Cal leaned out of his touch toward the swing. “Neither am I—and I still wouldn’t have any clue how to strap that thing . . . on? Around? In?”
“Wonderful. Now those images are stuck in my mind.”
“Mine too. That’s an ugly sight.” Cal left the room and Percy trailed behind, amused.
“You like your sex vanilla, Callaghan?”
“Well . . . French vanilla.” Percy stopped, staring a hole through the back of Cal’s head. Had he heard him right? Cal didn’t seem to realize the grenade he’d tossed. He poked his head into the next room and shook his head.
“Good lord, a heart-shaped bath? That might take some getting used to.”
French vanilla? Cal twisted around, concern creasing his brow.
“Are you okay?” Percy’s whole stomach somersaulted. “Peachy.”
Cal stepped up to him, hooked a finger under his chin, and tilted his head. “You look hot.”
“Hot?”
“Feverish.”
