Jonas shakes his head. “Well, I’m just glad that Ezra could help us out while you’ve been off. He’s such a calm person.”

I scowl at the thought of my temporary replacement. “Oh, him,” I say in disgust. “Why is he still here? I’m back now. Surely, he can clear off.”

“You’re having a changeover period after being off work for three months. I would think there’s a lot of business to talk about.” He sighs. “Although I emerged from my office yesterday to find you both discussing The Only Way is Essex.”

“He’s not staying, though. You don’t like him better?” I ask anxiously.

“Well, he hasn’t said seventy inappropriate things in an hour, and he’s never come to work in hotpants.”

“They were pinstriped,” I say indignantly.

“They were excessively inappropriate. Mr Simpson, the accountant, was scandalised.”

“I think it was the braces that pushed the outfit over the top.”

“Oh, of course. Definitely the braces.”

Dean nudges him, and Jonas shoots him a smile that gives me heart eyes. I love how sappy he is over his supermodel. Dean nudges Jonas again, and he sighs in a long-suffering way.

“However, it hasn’t been the same without you,” Jonas says, his deliberately robotic voice not even spoiling the sentiment.

I sit back. “I knew it. I bet your working day has been an arid wasteland of boredom.”

“Well, I wouldn’t say—”

Dean directs a glance at him.

“Of course, an arid wasteland of boredom,” Jonas says obediently.
