“I want to focus on the issues that matter,” Carl said. “I know you usually deal with kiss and tells or alcoholic lollies. I need to know that you can handle this.”
Carl might be attractive, but Nihal would not have his company’s ability called into question. “True. I’m not used to runners-up. But I’m sure I can pivot.”
“Touché.”
“Now I should really call Jacob in. You may as well meet him while you’re here.”
“Who’s Jacob?”
“I took the liberty of assigning him to this contract. Just in case you were interested. We haven’t got a moment to lose, after all.”
Carl rested his hands on the table. He had big worker’s hands that Nihal yearned to feel running over every part of his body. God, he would have to snap out of this ridiculous crush or ask Jeff to supervise Jacob while he worked with Carl.
“I’m interested, Mr Varma. I need you to understand. This is important. Whoever wins this election may very well be Prime Minister next year. I expected you to be dealing with this personally.”
Nihal didn’t know what to say. He hadn’t got his fingers dirty at that level for many years. Of course, he dabbled in things to keep his hand in. The idea of running something this big did fill him with a bit of fear. He found he quite liked it.
Carl’s mobile phone started to ring. “I’m sorry,” he said. “It’s my work one so I’ll have to take it.”
“I’ll give you some privacy.”
Nihal got up and slipped out of the room. Bee pounced on him as soon as he came into the main office.
“He’s gorgeous,” they gushed.
“Does Paula know you drool over attractive men?”
“Oh, please. The way you fawn over hot women wherever we go, you’d think you were the next Leo DiCaprio.”
Nihal glowered at them. “I’m the gay version.”
“Yes, it’ll be interesting to see you handle someone with intelligence. Aren’t you scared?”
“He’ll be Jacob’s worry after today. I’m just getting the fish on the hook. He can land him.”
The door of the meeting room opened and a harassed Carl came out. “I’m so sorry, a crisis in my constituency that I must go to.”
“That’s a shame,” Nihal said. “So did you want to proceed?”
Carl looked him up and down. Nihal had never suffered from confidence issues. However, he felt exposed all of a sudden.
“I guess that depends on you, Mr Varma.”
His first instinct was to insist on Jacob being the main point of contact for this. Yet something about the way Carl stared at him made him want to take the dare.
“Very well,” Nihal said. “You have yourself a deal.”

I have written for as long as I could write. In fact, before, when I would dictate to my auntie. I love to read, and I love to create worlds and characters.
I live in the English countryside. When I’m not writing, I like to get out there and think through the next scenario I’m going to throw my characters into.
Inspiration can be found anywhere, on a train, in a restaurant or in an office. I am always in search of the next character to find love in one of my stories. In a world of apps and online dating, it is important to remember love can be found when you least expect it.
