“This is exciting,” Rodrigo said. “I’ve never been to Cape Town before. Have you?”

Simon nodded. “When I studied for my sommelier qualification, we went as a class trip.”

“Sounds fun. Spending all day drinking wine?” Rodrigo held a serious look for about a second before dissolving into fits of giggles. “The look on your face. I’m joking. Of course, I know there is more to it than that.”

“You nearly got told off then.”

“God forbid. I would imagine that expression is reserved for your son only.”

He might be completely out of my league. Still, it won’t hurt to have a little flirt. Get some practice in.

“How’s the club coming on?” Simon managed.

Well, that’s a really sexy opener.

Rodrigo didn’t seem perturbed. He grabbed Simon’s arm, sending heat flooding through his system.

“Just wait until I show you the architect pictures. It’s going to be amazing.”

They chattered away quite happily on the drive to Heathrow Airport. Rodrigo gave him an excited update on the club which sounded like it was coming on nicely. Once again, Simon desperately wanted this contract. He’d already done a first draft of the proposal for Rodrigo. Not one to brag, Simon had the best contacts list in London.

Once inside the first-class lounge in the airport, Simon ordered drinks and settled back on the super comfortable sofa they’d been shown to.

“I have to keep telling myself this is a work trip,” Simon said with a chuckle. “I can’t even remember the last time a holiday didn’t involve water parks and a child on my shoulders.”

“If you want me to climb on your shoulders, you only have to ask.”

Simon blushed. “I’ll bear that in mind.”

Rodrigo held his gaze. “Failing that, I’m sure we can find something fun to do in Africa. All work and no play will make us dull boys indeed.”

“I’m sure Monifa will have something up her sleeve. She’s quite a woman.”

“She sounds it,” Rodrigo replied. “I did some internet research. I’m very excited to meet her.”

Rodrigo surprised Simon. There was a fiercely ambitious man under the entertaining exterior. It would be interesting to get to know him better over the next few days.

The lounge host approached with two glasses of cabernet sauvignon, which he handed to them before retreating.

“Cheers,” Simon said.

They clinked glasses.

“Here’s to a decent trip,” Rodrigo said. “I can’t believe you organised this so quickly.”

“Not me. The wonderful Monifa dealt with everything.”

“Monifa Masondo. Tell me about her. Interviews and articles only cover so much.”

Simon curled up on the leather sofa. He helped himself to an olive as he considered how to convey Monifa’s story. “Monifa’s an incredible person,” he started. “She used to work for one of the huge vineyards in Stellenbosch. It’s a wine buff’s paradise. Just wait until you see the vineyards. As far as the eye can see and then some.”

Rodrigo stared. “Am I going to find myself on my own while you go grape inspecting?”

“Ha. No, I promise.”

“Good,” Rodrigo replied. “Because I quite like the idea of being with you the whole time.”

Bio

kristian parker bio photoI have written for as long as I could write. In fact, before, when I would dictate to my auntie. I love to read, and I love to create worlds and characters.

I live in the English countryside. When I’m not writing, I like to get out there and think through the next scenario I’m going to throw my characters into.

Inspiration can be found anywhere, on a train, in a restaurant or in an office. I am always in search of the next character to find love in one of my stories. In a world of apps and online dating, it is important to remember love can be found when you least expect it.
