I’ll let you in on a little secret: I don’t know how to swim and I get seasick fairly easily, but I LOVE going on cruises.

For those of you who haven’t been on a cruise before, you’re in for one of the best adventures of your life. I’ve included a picture of me at one of my happiest times–on a 30-day cruise to French Polynesia with my husband, Peter (he took the picture when we were leaving Tahiti). I’ve been on several cruises–to the Caribbean, to Cabo San Lucas, around the Baltic Sea–and have always had a great time cruising with my hubby. But I know it would be so much fun to be with a big group of friends. That’s why I’m so excited about the Rainbow Reader’s Cruise! I’m looking forward to making lots of new friends.

Dominic Lim Rainbow Readers badgeA little about me–I’m a newbie author. I’ve spent most of my life as a musician and actor. I went to Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music to study vocal performance but ended up getting a degree in psychology instead, which I ended up not using at all (unless you count my tendency to psychoanalyze myself). After lying to my parents and saying I’d go to law school, I moved to New York instead to pursue my dreams of becoming a big Broadway star. That didn’t happen, either! (Although I did end up doing some Off-Broadway shows.) After about 10 years of pounding the pavement, I decided to get my Masters in Music and studied at Indiana University, intending to start a professional music career…which also did not happen! So I ended up moving back home to the San Francisco Bay Area and got a job working as a paralegal at a biotech company. I still work there today, 14 years later.

BUT I also started writing.

It was just for fun at first. I took a few classes here and there. Then, I started to get serious about it and joined a writing group, enrolled in a certificate program, and managed to publish a few short stories, all of which gave me the confidence to try my hand at writing a novel. Three years later, I ended up getting an agent and sold my book to Forever at Hachette/Grand Central Publishing.

That novel is called ALL THE RIGHT NOTES, and it’s a second-chance MM romance based on my experiences as a musician and actor working in NYC and SF. It’s full of music, food, humor, and queer joy. And my characters are diverse: Filipino, Japanese, Black, gay, bi, nonbinary/trans because I wanted people who have been historically underrepresented–like myself–to see themselves in a romance novel. We all deserve a happy ending, after all.

ALL THE RIGHT NOTES was published last June and I’m so proud of how well it’s done. It’s been named a 2023 best book by USA Today, Harper’s Bazaar, Goodreads, BookRiot, Library Journal, Booklist, and Entertainment Weekly–who called it “a swoony, joyful rom-com to take readers into a love story worthy of a Broadway stage.” Please check it out! You can get it wherever you like to get your books (although I am BIG supporter of independent bookstores and libraries, so try those places first, if you can).

I can’t wait to meet you all and talk about queer stories. Please always feel free to come up and say hi to me, join me for meals, or have drinks with me by the pool. I love to get to know people. And like I said earlier, I love cruises! We’re going to have such a great time together!

In this hilarious and joyous rom com, sparks fly when a piano genius and a Hollywood heartthrob are thrown together for a charity performance of solos, heartfelt duets, and a big, showstopping finale.

Quito Cruz might be a genius piano player and composer in New York City now but it doesn’t mean that he’s any closer to his Broadway dream. Although Quito knows what the problem is. Or rather who. Because ever since that night in college—with pretty-boy jock Emmett Aoki—his inspiration has been completely MIA . . .

Now Quito’s dad wants him to put on a charity performance in his hometown. And there’s one hella big string attached: convince Emmett—now one of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities—to perform.

It’s all shaping up to be the biggest musical fiasco of Quito’s life. Especially when Emmett agrees to attend, and Quito realizes that undeniable vibe between them is stronger than ever. Because there’s nothing simple about falling for a movie star . . . even when he’s pitch-perfect.

Dominic Lim has enjoyed a lifelong love affair with music. Dominic holds a master’s from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, is an alum of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and has sung with numerous professional choral ensembles. As a proud member of the Actors’ Equity Association, he has performed Off-Broadway and in regional productions throughout the US. Although he probably shouldn’t admit to having favorites, the thrill of singing “This is the Hour” in the chorus of Miss Saigon still pops up in his dreams. Dom supports his local writing community as a member of the Writers Grotto and as a co-host of San Francisco’s Babylon Salon. He lives in Oakland with his loving and supportive partner, Peter, and their whiny cat, Phoebe.
