Today I am so pleased to welcome Nora Phoenix to Joyfully Jay. Nora has come to talk to us as part of the Rainbow Readers Cruise Blog Tour! Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

I love cruising. No, not that kind. The one where you spend time on a big ship. I love it.

I was late to the party in this case since I didn’t do my first cruise until December of 2021. The good news was that I picked a great ship, the Carnival Mardi Gras, which was brand new at that time. And she was big… I had so much fun that week that I couldn’t wait for the next one.

Nora Phoenix with Flamingo statueAs I’m writing this, I’m actually on my fifth cruise, heading for Cozumel, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. The last two are new ports for me, so I’m excited! My son said he loved Grand Cayman because of the beautiful beaches and clear water, so I can’t wait.

To me, cruising is the ultimate relaxing. You don’t need to worry about anything because everything is provided. Your room gets cleaned, you have all these restaurants and buffets where you can eat, there’s shows and comedy shows and karaoke, plus of course the casino, movies, dance parties, and you name it. Plus, the weather is usually great if you head for the Caribbean, like I’ve done so far.

And I’ve made amazing new friends on my cruises, especially through the LGBT+ meetups that Carnival organizes a few times each cruise. I’ve stayed in touch with quite a few of them and we even got to meet at another cruise again. Hell, I even gained new readers that way, when they discovered I wrote MM. That’s one way of promoting my books I don’t mind at all, haha.

But what I love most is the freedom. I can party on the deck with a couple of hundred people…or stay in my room and write. I can go out for a fancy dinner…or stuff myself at the buffet. I can read or find solitude, soak up some sun or stay in the shade when it gets too hot, I can spend time with a large group or be by myself. It’s the ultimate “do it your way” vacation.

Cruise ship coming into portSo far, I’ve only cruised with Carnival, so I’m super excited to go on the Rainbow Reader Cruise on the Celebrity Reflection. Every cruise line is different, but since I’ve only tried one, I’m very interested in experiencing those differences firsthand. I’ve also booked a cruise for next year with Virgin, which is an adults-only cruise. I’m sure that will be a completely different vibe as well.

Anyway, I’m counting down till the Rainbow Reader Cruise this summer, and I can’t wait to see you all there and spend time together! Plus, enjoy the sunshine, visit Key West, play a few rounds of blackjack, and above all, hang out together and have fun. Will I see you there?
