Today I am so pleased to welcome Eden Winters to Joyfully Jay. Eden has come to talk to us about her latest release, Darkness. She has also brought along a great giveaway. Please join me in giving her a big welcome!

Hey, y’all. I’m Eden Winters, author, grandmother, and goat mom to name a few of the hats I wear. I’m grateful to Joyfully Jay for allowing me to be on the site and talk about my new book.

What makes for a good story and storytelling? What rivets you to a character, making it difficult to put a book down? I love redemption arcs, as my Diversion series attests to, where an MC starts out as an anti-hero and ends up, well, still an anti-hero, but a better person. Oh, yes, and they fall in love. That’s what I like to read, and that’s what I like to write, be it contemporary, paranormal, fantasy, urban fantasy… you get the picture.

My novels all start with a single idea. With Darkness, it was good and evil, dark vs. light. But what if darkness wasn’t truly evil? What if it simply needed light for balance?

Thus, a story was born. What would a character who epitomized darkness be like? Disillusioned? Foul-tempered? Depressed? A rule-breaker? Morrisey James is all those things besides being addicted to alcohol and nicotine. He is what you’d expect of darkness without light. He’s one step away from self-destruction.

Farren Austen is the light to Morrisey’s darkness, but there’s a catch. He’s not Terran. He came from a dying world and can’t get home—not that anyone waits for him there. However, if he doesn’t rein Morrisey in, destruction will ensue. But for all his sweetness and light, he, too, is unbalanced.

The aliens inhabit human bodies but have skills most humans don’t have—what might be considered magic. They hide in plain sight among humans, just trying to survive—well, most of them, anyway. But hey, the book needs villains, right? And strong secondary characters.

Darkness is currently available for preorder at Amazon and will release on Amazon and KU on June 1.

Darkness follows Lieutenant Morrisey James.

As an Atlanta PD detective, Morrisey understands the worst atrocities the city has to offer—or believes he does. His recent cases present something new: a killer who unleashes unbridled terror in victims before moving in for the kill. Morrisey has an edge, though, the terrifying ability to gain flashes of insight from each victim.

Most people assume Farren Austin is a shallow, pretty boy, but he’s so much more. Agent Austin keeps secrets as part of the FBI’s Alternate Entities Task Force, a unit created to monitor travelers from another realm. Although they might look human, they’re anything but.

And they’ve taken a special interest in Morrisey.

Partnered with Farren, Morrisey finds himself in the middle of demons trying to possess his body, a succubus sidekick who wants to cook him breakfast, accusations of being a powerful destructive force, and a growing number of people calling him “Darkness.” Not to mention a sudden overwhelming attraction to his new partner.

It’s going to take the mysterious Farren’s help to keep the latest case from being Morrisey’s last.

You will know Eden Winters by her distinctive white plumage and exuberant cry of “Hey, y’all!” in a Southern US drawl so thick it renders even the simplest of words unrecognizable. Watch out, she hugs!

Driven by insatiable curiosity, she possibly holds the world’s record for curriculum changes to the point that she’s never quite earned a degree but is a force to be reckoned with at Trivial Pursuit.

She’s trudged down hallways with police detectives, learned to disarm knife-wielding bad guys, and witnessed the correct way to blow doors off buildings. Her e-mail contains various snippets of forensic wisdom, such as “What would a dead body left in a Mexican drug tunnel look like after six months?” In the process of her adventures, she has written over twenty-eight gay romance novels, lost count of novellas and short stories, has won Rainbow Awards, was a Lambda Awards Finalist, and lives in terror of authorities showing up at her door to question her Internet searches.

When not putting characters in dangerous situations she’s cosplaying for children’s charities or hanging out at the farm being a mother, grandmother, and vegetarian.

Her natural habitats are coffee shops and on the backs of motorcycles.
