The Heart of Moonlight Falls is the third and final book in the Moonlight Falls trilogy. The books are intended to be read in order and this review will naturally reveal plot points for the series.

This is a series about magic and curses and finding the person that will stand by you. Sebastian has not had an easy life. A curse was forced upon him through a devastating betrayal and he was left at Storm House alone and cut off from the world for years. With James by his side, life is a little better, but the curse still follows him, even though he has managed to leave Storm House.

The shades, which used to be nuisances at night, are now present at all times of the day and their violence is escalating. With no help from outside the town, James and Sebastian, and those close to them are left to battle the shades and figure out how to restore the balance of magic in Moonlight Falls.

As I got to this last book in this series, this is the part where it should be the most exciting. However, I did find myself underwhelmed. I liked the progression of James and Sebastian’s relationship and the story behind the curse. However, I felt the story covered the same things repeatedly, the story of the shades didn’t hold my interest, and the areas that should have had a great impact didn’t.

The town is in chaos and they are not getting any outside help. James and Sebastian, along with Parker, Eli, and friends, are on their own to figure out a complicated situation that gets more complicated every day. Sebastian is willing to sacrifice himself for a town that loathes him most days, but he is committed to ending the curse. I was waiting for the confrontation with Sebastian’s mother, but it really lacked the impact I was looking for and Sebastian’s sister is never on page, which weakened that part of the storyline as well.

Overall, this was an interesting concept and the personal relationships outshone the story they were in. I did enjoy getting to meet James and Sebastian and learning their stories, but ultimately was somewhat let down by their final book.
