Aiden Keller is a young brilliant computer hacker who has just been sentenced to a year at The Edge, rather than jail, by a merciful judge. The judge’s son, Heath Anders, is one of the owners of the corporate training company, and he can see that his father’s insistence that the beautiful boy wouldn’t last a day in jail was correct. Aiden is headstrong and belligerent, but Heath can’t help but be attracted to him. Aiden has no idea what he will be doing for the next year, but he knows he won’t mind being around Heath while he does it.
The Edge does legitimate business during the week, but on the weekends, it becomes a training facility for Dominants and submissives. Heath’s business partner is Joe, who, along with boyfriend and submissive Olly, were the couple in the previous book. When Aiden arrives, Heath quickly puts him to work, but looking and not touching is getting increasingly difficult for him, especially when he realizes that Aiden has a submissive side that’s begging to come out.
When things get exciting at The Edge and the real reason for why Aiden is in trouble is revealed, Heath becomes more protective than ever. The young man’s life is in danger, and he will do everything in his power to keep anything from happening to him.
I quite enjoyed the first book in the Tales from the Edge series and it was fun revisiting the characters of Joe and Olly, especially since I fell in love with Olly. This book is also good and quite similar to the first. Olly and Aiden become friends. Joe and Heath are already best friends. Two younger submissives, two much older and demanding Dominants. The only difference here is that Aiden gives Heath more of a run for his money when it comes to his submission. He’s got an attitude and Heath seems to like that part of him, so they don’t really adhere to the traditional roles as strictly.
The relationship between Heath and Aiden was full of chemistry, and I also really like the younger man/older man dynamic, so this worked for me. However, I did have a little bit of a problem with the insta-love as well as the fact that Heath immediately demands to see Aiden naked. While he doesn’t take advantage of his nudity, it felt inappropriate to me, considering Heath was supposed to be supervising his work in accordance with the punishment he received. Heath said he wouldn’t do anything with Aiden as long as he was under his supervision, but it still crossed the line for me.
These books are quite short, and it’s one of the quibbles I have with them. I enjoy them a lot, but because of the short length, we don’t get a lot of character development and with characters that are so rich and interesting, I think this is a shame. They are fun, entertaining, and steamy diversions for an afternoon, though, so don’t hesitate to pick one of them up when you’re in the mood for some power play and sexy older men.
